About the Role:

Amgen British Columbia is inviting applications from motivated and technically skilled students for a Co-op opportunity in Software Engineering within our Large Molecule Discovery – Technology division. This hands-on role will expose candidates to cutting-edge biopharmaceutical research and digital innovation.

As a Software Engineer Co-op, you will work closely with internal IT and scientific teams to support the development and optimization of digital tools and laboratory automation systems. You will contribute to the digital transformation of therapeutic antibody discovery by developing data pipelines, automating scientific instruments, and designing intuitive visualization tools that support R&D efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Software Development & Data Integration:
    Develop and optimize internal and vendor software systems, including the implementation of data pipelines to ensure efficient data flow across platforms.
  • Laboratory Instrument Automation:
    Collaborate with scientists and engineers to automate laboratory processes, increasing accuracy and throughput.
  • Data Visualization & Dashboards:
    Build interactive dashboards and tools to enable easy interpretation of complex scientific data.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    Liaise with cross-functional teams including technologists and researchers to assess needs and translate them into efficient technology solutions.
  • System Testing & Documentation:
    Participate in system validation and testing. Assist in creating clear, reusable technical documentation for future maintenance and scalability.

Eligibility Criteria:

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older at the time of application.
  • Currently enrolled full-time in a Bachelor’s program at an accredited college/university.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent.
  • Completed at least one year of post-secondary education before the placement start date.
  • Must be enrolled full-time in a degree program following the Co-op period.
  • Must not be employed at the time of internship commencement.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Availability for two consecutive 4-month Co-op terms (8 months total).
  • Hands-on experience or coursework in Python, Java, or C#.
  • Familiarity with data pipeline tools such as Apache Kafka, Apache Airflow.
  • Experience or knowledge of data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau.
  • Exposure to or interest in automation systems in a laboratory setting.
  • Strong analytical thinking, collaborative mindset, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree in progress in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or closely related field from an accredited institution.
